March 27 1915 Typhoid Mary was arrested for a second time and quarantined for the rest of her life. Her real name was Mary Mallon she was an Irish immigrant to the US she made her living as a cook. From 1900-1907 Mary worked as a cook for large families. A pattern quickly arose Mary would gain employment cook for them for two or three weeks before the families and other paid help would start getting sick and die. Then Mary would move on to another area and repeat the pattern. The term Being a Typhoid Mary has come to mean being blind to the consequences of your beliefs and can be used to understand groups like the Tea Party, gun violence and even the anti-vax movement.
Mary was kept in quarantine from 1907-1910. During this time she was taught about hygiene and eventually told that she could be released if she promised to stop working as a cook. She was released and she secretly changed her name to Mary Brown and started working as a cook again. Then in 1915 she was captured again and spent the rest of her life in jail. She is estimated to have cause the death of over 50 people.
Arguments today about immigration can quickly be refuted with facts. Immigration has bottomed out in the US to even negative numbers, yet people can not see this. Good guys with guns only prevent the violent situation from becoming worse 3% of the time yet it is the major argument use by gun advocates. Don’t be like Mary let the truth help you help yourself.
