More than 125,000 Brooklyn would be voters were mysteriously purged from the voter registration lists yesterday. Polling sites closed without notice and vote scanners stopped working. NYC Comptroller Scott Stringer has cried foul and will be auditing the NYC board of elections.

“The people of New York City have lost confidence that the Board of Elections can effectively administer elections and we intend to find out why the BOE is so consistently disorganized, chaotic and inefficient.  With four elections in New York City in 2016 alone, we don’t have a moment to spare.” stated Stringer

Mayor Bill de Blasio said “It has been reported to us from voters and voting rights monitors that the voting lists in Brooklyn contain numerous errors, including the purging of entire buildings and blocks of voters from the voting lists,”

It is clear who gained from this debacle. NY was already a closed primary already disenfranchising thousands of independent votes from the ranks. Sanders drew record crowds before yesterday’s primary so it must have inspired the sabotage. I hope the audit turns up something solid for the sake of democracy.
