Why does Donald Trump keep making cringe-worthy statements that can only hurt his polling numbers?

A Freudian model would suggest that he lacks a balancing superego. Or that his ego is incapable of filtering out the inside voice of his id? It could be that Donald is 100% id, which would at least explain the hair.

It is to this line of Freudian thought that the majority people seem to adhere. The alternative explanation (too terrifying for most to comprehend) is either blocked by denial or being subconsciously repressed:

The truth may be that Donald Trump is a tactical genius.

I know it sounds crazy, but there are four intelligent and clever reasons for Donald’s seemingly random, offensive and absurd statements.

#1 Free Press  – Any press is good press. Especially when your opponent’s behemoth money machine outmatches you 30 – 1. (source: CNN)

#2 Pace  – It’s a long way to November. Let someone else work hard setting the pace.

#3 The Underdog  – Donald will want to assume the underdog role to set Hillary up for attacks on the establishment, Sanders style.

#4 The Opposition  – The more Greens, the less Hill-bots. Donald way out front would give ex-Sandernistas second thoughts about going Green.

Like a good long distance runner, Donald does not want to “lead the pack”. He just wants to hang in the “leaders” slip stream and conserve his energy (funds) for the final sprint.

So Donald is running his race like a genius.

Or maybe he is just all id?!
